01/07/2018 - Time and Space
I am writing this blog at Sheraton Miyako Hotel in Shirokane, Tokyo where has a spacious lounge with a view of beautiful green garden. Yesterday I was sipping a fresh orange juice on 45th floor at Ritz Carlton.
Going to hotel lounge and working there became my luxury things to do on weekends. I started this habit back in Spain/Ireland. We used to visit 5-star hotels to have some tea on our trips. Instead of spending lots of money on accommodation, we just visit lounges in style. They serve amazing teas with some cookies with decent price, the service is amazing. If you think you need to spend 2-3 hours to do a quality work or conversation, these places are ideal. It is so much better than going to a cafe with lots of people especially if you live in a city like Tokyo.
Holding space to me is luxury. Since I was a little, I am obsessed with my own time (space meaning physical and mental space) to do nothing or read or feel grounded. Without having this space, it will be very easy to get overwhelmed or lose a direction. I strongly feel that as I am quite adaptable to any situations (whether it's good or bad) and because of that, I need to be conscious of that.
Today, I was finishing up a difficult letter to my dad and I have been procrastinating for a month. First when I started to write him, the content was full of judgement and anger. It was almost difficult for me to be calm and objective. I crafted again and again, asked some feedback from my sisters. I felt unease every time I said to myself "Oh, I have to send the letter to my dad".
This space today in the hotel allows me to confront my struggles as this space helps me be calm and more compassionate. Compassion was the key to make the letter more readable. Thus, it doesn't matter if the task you want to tackle is exciting or not, it can be a boring bureaucratic work but at least you have an amazing and inspiring environment.
I also love the lounge space as I feel it makes me feel like I want to dress up and straighten my spine to be more elegant. If you are lucky, the hotel may be offering live music. Hope you find your favorite lounge in your city.
Thank you for spending your time to read this.
