06/07/2018 Food Awareness

I work in Google Tokyo and here people are treated very well with care. Yesterday, I was just walking around the canteen on 27th floor around lunch time and saw a gluten free penne with Tomato sauce was served. In the afternoon, I attended a workshop at work to learn about food waste issues and how to make pickles.

I left Japan in 2014 and came back in 2017. During those few years, things here have been changing slowly yet surely. I used to consume meat products so I didn't know well about the situation back then about vegetarian options but now here are some good shops/restaurants you can go as vegetarian/vegan.

On the other hand, I understand there are some arguments about food options. It's hard to know if eating only vegetable doesn't really harm anyone.  I think trying to save/protect the environment sounds too vague and just too big especially when we talk about it for food industry. However, I feel that looking at cows in a zoo and we say "they are so cute!" and then going home eating steaks don't make any sense to me. I didn't think about it before, or rather I didn't want to think about it.

I believe that in the future, we stop consuming animal products and live on this planet together with harmony. We have enough technology so now is the time to use this tool for the better for the food industry, too.

Thank you for spending your time to read this.
